Login as anonymous, password is your e-mail address. SNiFF+ is in the directory takefive/pub/SNiFF+-2.1 on both sites. This directory contains these files:

  1. LICENSE -->License Agreement .
  2. README -->Information about printing out the SNiFF+ manuals.
  3. copy.txt -->GNU Copyright notice for gcc compiler.

You should now create a directory to download SNiFF+ into (download directory). Download the following files into this directory:

Next, create a subdirectory within your download directory corresponding to the name of your operating system (similar to the corresponding platform-specific subdirectory on the ftp server). Download the contents of the ftp server subdirectory into this subdirectory. For example, create a subdirectory called sunos and download the contents of takefive/pub/SNiFF+-2.1/sunos into this new directory. Be sure to download all the files.

Your download directory should now mirror the ftp server directory shown above

CAUTION: You should ensure that you have downloaded the files using binary (bi) mode.
When you have finished downloading, you should make sure you have transferred all of the files completely by doing the following:

Please read the README and LICENSE files before proceeding.

2.0 INSTALL SNiFF+

CAUTION: DO NOT attempt to install SNiFF+ in the same directory into which you have downloaded the files. This will not work, and the files will have to be downloaded again. During the installation, when prompted for the "SNiFF+ root directory" you should specify a different directory.

NOTE: FTP often switches off the executable bit on "gzcat" and "tar" ("tar" is only provided and necessary for SunOS, SCO, and AIX). Be sure that "gzcat" and "tar" have execution bit switched on by using the commands:

SNiFF+ can be installed using the following command from your download directory:
csh -f ./install.kit
You should now print out the documentation.
